The Challenge explained

Love Boat Servizi Nautici, a leading provider of comprehensive nautical services (including floating pontoons and environmental equipment), is often involved in projects that require  reliable and proven high-tech tooling for waterway clean ups, especially in coastal Italy. The challenge is two-fold:

  1. The intense aesthetic demands of the tourism sector required guaranteed, consistent water clarity and safe recreational water conditions, which static cleanup devices could not achieve alone. Obviously cost savings (manual vs autonomous) are an important driver.
  2. Increasing Love Boats’ added value requires clear and realtime reporting on water quality enabling both instant response on changing water conditions and long term policy making for those involved.

The solution

Love Boat Servizi Nautici partnered with RanMarine, integrating the WasteShark Robotics-as-a-Service (RaaS) model into its environmental portfolio. The WasteShark ASVs were deployed to operate autonomously within municipal harbors, marinas and inland water areas. Using the data that are collected by smart sensors and transmitted to the RanMarine Connect dashboard, enables smart reporting and decision making. The RaaS model provided Love Boat with:

  1. Portfolio Differentiation: The WasteShark added a mobile, high-tech, zero-emission cleanup capability, differentiating Love Boat’s service offering, especially for municipalities and environmental associations. .
  2. Data Reporting: The RanMarine Connect platform provided verified, geo-tagged reports on waste volumes and water health metrics, enhancing Love Boat’s value proposition for client auditing and environmental reporting.

The results

  • 65% reduction in labour time allocated to routine waterborne debris collection, optimising workforce utilisation;
  • The WasteShark provides a mobile system capable of removing 2 tons of debris in one year in the Port of Reggio Calabria. This includes macro-waste (e.g. plastics, wood, nets) and smaller debris (e.g. polystyrene pellet).
  • The zero emission ASV’s positions Love Boat as a forward-thinking, high-tech environmental service provider in the Italian market.
  • The added water quality data has also positioned Love Boat as a highly respected service provider, especially supporting governmental organisations to achieve the sustainability goals.
